a teatray in the sky

gone fishin

took a spur-of-the-moment weekend detour out to the far reaches of virginia to go camping with the guys this weekend.  fishing really isn’t my thing, but hiking and sleeping on hard ground are.  we had a great time eating beans, trying to catch fish, making fires, making more fires (tina is a pyro), and acting like hillfolk.  I’m going to have to call up smitty and set up some real backwoods camping for next year …

I haven’t shot black and white in a long time, partly because I’ve haven’t been happy with how digital photographs translate into black and white.  I might have to pick up a copy of Silver Efex Pro because there’s something about the grain and contrast of Kodak Tri-X that I miss and can’t get out of my digital shots.  also surprising is the fact that black and white seems even more dependent on good monitor calibration than color photographs … who would’ve thought?  maybe because there’s less forms of visual data to interpret, what odes change becomes significantly more visible.

I think it just happened to be a gray moment that day, the blue sky was sort of on-and-off. I like the last image best too.
