Mandarin Palace

if that doesn’t make you want to smack your grandma and say yeehaw, you should consult a medical professional immediately.  appreciating a good peking duck is universal.  even vegetarians have to act like they’re not just a little interested.  don’t drool on your keyboard there, your spacebar is going to stick.  do your tastebuds and slightly bruised grandma a favor and take them both to Mandarin Palace down in chevy chase.

the last few weeks have been crazy busy and it has nothing to do with a. wedding planning and/or b. moving in to the new house.  apparently people think that’s all we do nowadays, as engaged home-owners.  no, in fact, most of the time what we do is: work.  and lots of it.  but the last few weeks have been busy in a good way.  lots of things looking up and there’s the scent of good things over the horizon.

like the scent of peking duck.

anyone who knows the Li clan should know by now this is where we go, and pretty much the only place we go, to get peking duck.  so it should be no surprise that we would rapidly introduce the newest member of the clan, Henry, to mandarin palace, for his birthday no less.

this restaurant is as narrowly focused as a track-day Lotus Exige.  and that’s not a bad thing.  it takes its duck seriously, and we respect that.  the curious thing is, there are some people who come to Mandarin Palace and … don’t get the duck.  in fact, there are people who eat here and don’t know what peking duck is.  people.  what.  the.  duck.

that’s like going to China and eating at McDonald’s (yeah Randy, I am talking about you).  it just doesn’t make sense.

the best thing about Mandarin Palace is that it’s one of the few places that can elicit this kind of a lazy lopsided grin from my Dad at the end of a day.  ’nuff said.
